New Regional Hospital
The project of building a new hospital in Bijeljina was launched aiming that the existing hospital facilities of General Hospital "Sveti Vračevi" (includes more than 10 buildings) get accommodated under one roof.
The new hospital will have 12,500 square meters and it will be home to eight wards and emergency sections with all related departments and 220 beds. It is envisaged that the new hospital become a regional medical center of the north-eastern part of the Republic of Srpska, in which the health care by modern standards will be getting about 200,000 inhabitants of the municipality of Bijeljina and the surrounding municipalities. The value of the new hospital is estimated at BAM 82 million (cca €42 million), and will be built in cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Srpska and the City of Bijeljina. The new Hospital is in the final phase of building. The contracotor is the Austrian company Vamed, with the involvement of local companies as subcontractors.
The building of the hospital began with ceremony of laying the foundation stone at the end of September 2010. The City of Bijeljina had fullfiled its obligations in the amount of BAM 13.5 million (€ 6,92 million) in 2008 - securing building permits and land, construction of access roads, parking lots and other infrastructure.
